MANAGEMENT OF MULTIPLE CHALAZIA W.S.R. TO UTSANGINI – A SINGLE CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Chalazia are the most common slowly enlarging painless eyelid nodules caused by the mild grade inflammation and the obstruction of Meibomian glands of eyelids. Utasangini, which is a Varthmagatha roga can be correlated with chalazion. Materials and Method: This is a case report of 9 years old boy who approached Shalakya tantra eye OPD of Vaidya ratnam Ayurveda college, Ollur with multiple painless nodular swelling over left lower eye lid associated with foreign body sensation since 2 months. The subject was thoroughly examined and diagnosed as multiple chalazia. The treatment was planned according to the Chikitsa sutra of Utsangini. The subject was treated with Lekhana karma and Kriyakalpa as
Sthanika chikitsa along with Shamanoushadhis. Result: The subject had shown good improvement both subjectively and objectively. Discussion: The conventional and effective treatment of chalazion is incision and curettage and in some other cases intralesional long acting steroid injections are giving better results. Here the Ayurvedic treatment are adopted which are effective and not having side effects.
