COMPARATIVE STUDY OF EFFICACY OF UDUMBER KSHEER PICHU (DRESSING) AND BETADINE SOLUTION GAUZE DRESSING IN MANAGEMENT OF ANORECTAL ABSCESS AFTER INCISION AND DRAINAGE-A STUDY PROTOCOL

ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: As anorectal abscess frequently co-exists with fistula in ano, failure to identify and treat the internal opening at the time of primary operation may result in chronic fistula formation and recurrent abscesses. So, to avoid complication of anorectal abscess it is necessary to do appropriate management and healing of wound effect after incision and drainage. Pichu has been long practiced as a local treatment procedure in Ayurveda. Pichu act by increasing the tissue contact time of the drug and skin, its improving bio availability in comparison to conventional local application of drugs. Udumbar have properties of Shothagna, Vranashodhan and Varanopid, Sthambhana, Sandhana, Vedana Sthapana which are helpful for management of abscess wound. Objective- To study the efficacy of udumber ksheer
pichu (gauze) in the management of vidradhi. To study the efficacy of betadine ointment gauze dressing in the management of vidradhi. To compare the efficacy of udumber ksheer pichu (gauze) dressing and betadine ointment gauze dressing in the management of vidradhi. Material & Method: The present study is designed as a randomized control trial in which 16 patients will be enrolled in each group. For experimental group, udumber ksheer pichu is applied locally for seven days. For patients in control group betadine ointment gauze will be applied for seven days. In both the groups patients who have undergone incision and drainage of abscess are only chosen. Results: The changes are expected to be observed in subjective parameters such as inflammation. tenderness, discharge and itching. Conclusion: The research is expected is introduce udumber ksheer pichu, which stays similar to betadine ointment and also provide local symptomatic relief.
