A CLINICAL STUDY ON THE COMBINED EFFECT OF MASHADI TAILA MARSHA NASYA AND PATHYADI KASHAYA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ARDHAVABHEDAKA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO MIGRAINE

ABSTRACT
Background: Ardhavabhedaka is a type of Shiroroga with the cardinal feature of unilateral headache, which if left untreated leads to complications like blindness and hearing loss. This disease can be correlated to Migraine headache based on the clinical manifestations. As new research and clinical experience broaden, our knowledge in treatment and drug therapy also need to expand. In this present study, Mashadi Taila has been chosen as a trial drug which was administered in the form of marsha nasya along with Pathyadi kashaya as pana (Oral administration) in Ardhavabhedaka (Migraine). Objectives of the study: To clinically evaluate the combined effect of Mashadi Taila marsha nasya and Pathyadi Kashaya in the management of Ardhavabhedaka with special reference to Migraine. Methodology: 30
patients of Ardhavabhedaka were selected from OPD and IPD of SDM college of Ayurveda and Hospital, Hassan; the drugs Mashadi Taila and Pathyadi kashaya were intervened as marsha nasya and Pana respectively for a period of 7 and 15 days respectively and assessed with Headache Impact Test – 6 (HIT-6) scale on 0th, 7th, 15th and on 15th day after completion of treatment (30th day). Results: The data was analysed and found that the combination of these two drugs together were clinically and statistically significant. Interpretation and Conclusion: It is evident that the active ingredients present in both Mashadi Taila and Pathyadi Kashaya are helpful in reducing the severity of headache and other subjective parameters.
