ABSTRACT
Background: Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of blindness which occurs in long standing Diabetes Mellitus, either controlled or uncontrolled. Prameha has been described very elaborately in Ayurveda, however no direct reference is available that can indicate its progression to vision loss. Risk factors for Diabetic Retinopathy comprise duration of diabetes, level of glycaemia, presence of high blood pressure, etc. The currently available treatment options for DR are focused mainly on treating the later stages viz PDR (Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy), Retinal Detachment, etc. There is a necessity to develop non-invasive and cost-effective treatment options in the early stages of DR. In this present study, Vasakadi kvatha and Katakadi anjana has been chosen as a trial drug.
