REVIEW ON GASTRO RETENTIVE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

ABSTRACT

GRDDS is one of the novel approaches in pharmaceutical industry as a means to achieve better therapeutic benefits such as easy to dosage administration, patient compliance and formulation flexibility. This review is based on such oral drug delivery system and controlled release drug delivery system, GRDDS which act as a drug reservoir and release drug in controlled manner in defined prolong time. The main purpose of Gastro retentive drug delivery system is to improve bioavailability of drug. The present review covers the Basic Anatomy and Physiology of Gastrointestinal Track, Requirements for Gastroretention Drug, Need for Gastro Retention, Factors Affecting Gastro retentive time, advantages and disadvantages of GRDDS, Recent Approaches of Gastro – Retentive Drug Delivery System.
