A REVIEW ON ADMINISTRATION OF ANTIDOTES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF POISONING

ABSTRACT
In all countries acute poisoning is a common medical emergency. After the primary measures for the management of poisoning such as Emesis and gastric lavage there comes use of antidotes for counter the absorption of poison in the body. Antidotes are agents, which neutralises the effects of poisons. Antidotes need to be used because a) the poison not have been completely removed by emesis or gastric lavage or these procedures are contraindicated b) the poison is already absorbed c) the poison has been administered by route other than ingestion. The administration of antidotes should be carried out in time, in proper patient and following the precautions for the beneficial effects of the antidotes.
