A BRIEF REVIEW ON PATHOPHYSIOLOGY, CONTRIBUTING FACTORS AND TREATMENT OF KIDNEY STONES

ABSTRACT
Urinary calculi are the third most prevalent disorder prevailing all over the world. It is a common disorder estimated to occur in approximately 12% of the population, with a recurrence rate of 70.81% in males, and 47.60% in females. Approximately 50% of patients with previous urinary calculi have a recurrence within 10 years. An understanding of the disorder‟s epidemiology is important to enabling effective preventive efforts. Therefore, it is mandatory to evaluate the current knowledge for the diagnosis, medical and interventional treatment, and prophylaxis and metaphylaxis regarding aspects related to urinary tract
stones. It is also essential to have a basic understanding of the etiological factors of stone formation, and careful evaluation of the metabolic and personal risk factors is a fundamental part of the management of patients with urinary tract stone disease. Therefore, the present review deals with the types, pathophysiology, prevention and treatment and factor affecting the formation of kidney stones.
