A COMPARISON OF AYURVEDA LITERATURE WITH CONTEMPORARY SCIENCE ON APASMARA -A REVIEW ARTICLE

ABSTRACT
Apasmara is a disease entity which bears a lot of significant importance since it has the dubious distinction of affecting all walks of life of an individual suffering from the disease and it has been described among the Maharogas. Epilepsy is one of the diseases which comes under the umbrella of Apasmara due to the similarity in the features of both representing the samplava of bhuddhi, smriti, satva, bibhatsa chesta and tamah pravesha as transient loss of consciousness or awareness with impaired memory with that of epilepsy. It is a disease which affects both Shareera and Manas by both Shareerika Doshas like Vata, Pitta, Kapha and Manasika Doshas like Rajas and Tamas which plays a equal role in the manifestation of disease Apasmara. The present article has emphasized on the nature of disease, its etiology, pathogenesis, classification, symptomatology and Management in both Ayurvedic and Contemporary system of Medicine.
