ABSTRACT
Keechakadi taila is a unique preparation mentioned in Vangasena Samhitha under Kshudrarogadhikara for Darunaka Chikitsa (treatment of dandruff). It contains easily available and minimal drugs such as Keechaka (Bambusa arundinaceae), Gomutra (cow’s urine) and Sarshapa taila (mustard oil). The pharmaceutical study of Keechakadi taila was planned with the aim of observing and noting different changes during the preparation thus contributing to the future studies. All the methods were carried out according to classical reference of Vangasena and general method of taila preparation of Sharangadhara Samhitha. Repeated Phenodgama (appearance of froth/bubbles) and Phenashanthi (subsidence of froth/bubbles) were seen throughout the procedure. The final product obtained was brownish pink in colour with peculiar odour.
