ABSTRACT
Dosage forms are rich in wide range of utility in day today Ayurvedic medicinal practice. This makes Ayurveda more effective and popular. Medicated Taila in ayurvedic pharmaceutics is described in detail under Sneha Kalpana section along with preparation of medicated Taila and Ghrita kalpana is an unique contribution of Ayurvedic science. Vishatinduka taila is one such polyherbal preparation is mentioned in the Bhaishajya ratnavali vataraktadhikara.[1] When gels and emulsions are used in combined form the dosage form are referred as emulgel. Emulgels for dermatological use have several favorable
properties such as being thixotropic (Having a viscosity that decreases when a stress is applied), greaseless, easily spreadable, easily removable, emollient, nonstaining, long shelf life, bio-friendly, transparent and pleasing appearance In recent years, there has been great interest in the use of novel polymers with complex functions as emulsifiers and thickeners because the gelling capacity of these compounds allows the formulation of stable emulsions and creams by decreasing surface and interfacial tension and at the same time increasing the viscosity of the aqueous phase.[3] In this study attempt is made that dosage modification of classically prepared vishatinduka taila into emul gel to asses its analytical parameters.
