ABSTRACT
Background: Calf tightness is a form of chronic dysfunction which is a subclinical problem, often missed and manifests form of musculoskeletal pain or injuries. Calf tightness is a form of chronic dysfunction is a subclinical problem often missed and manifests form of musculoskeletal pain or injuries. Tightness of these muscles inturn leads to the formation of trigger points within the muscle. Positional release technique is a manual therapy technique of osteopathic origin Positional release technique increases the flexibility of muscle by keeping the muscle shortened position for a period of 90 seconds while maintaining a sustained manual pressure. Aim & Objective: The aim
and objective of the study is to assess the effectiveness of positional release technique on calf tightness. Methodology: It is an experimental study. 20 samples who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria were recruited for the study. The pre and post test was done by using goniometer and numerical pain rating scale. They were divided into two groups namely group A -10 samples (experimental group) and group B -10 samples (control group). The positional release technique was given for the 10 samples of experimental group (group A) and static stretching was given for the 10 samples of control group (group B). Both the groups were given treatment for duration of one session consisting of 20 minutes for a period of 5 days per week for 6 weeks. Result: There is statistically greater improvement in experimental group in which the subjects were given positional release technique. Conclusion: The result show that positional release technique Group A (experimental) was effective than group B (control group).
Keywords: Calf tightness, positional release technique, goniometer, musculoskeletal pain, Numerical pain rating scale, static stretching.
