FAST DISSOLVING TABLET TECHNOLOGY – A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Recent trends in Pharmaceutical formulation devlopment technology have presented viable dosage alternatives for patients who may have difficulty in swallowing tablets or liquids.. Some patients, particularly pediatric and geriatric patients, have difficulty swallowing or chewing solid dosage forms. Fast-dissolving tablets (FDTs) / Orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs) are best suited for such patients. Fast-dissolving drug delivery systems have rapidly gained acceptance as an important new route of administering drugs. There are multiple fast-dissolving OTC and prescription products worldwide, most of which have been launched in the past 4 to 5 years.
