ABSTRACT
Background: Bhaishajya kalpana is the science which deals with the preparation of different Ayurvedic formulations. Sneha Kalpana is an important dosage form in which Sneha (Ghrita or Taila) become more potent by imbibing medicinal properties from the drugs processed with it. Pinda Taila is one such formulation which is widely prescribed in the management of Vatarakta (gouty arthritis). It is unique than other oil preparations in Ayurveda due to its specific manufacturing methods. No any published reports are available in the context of manufacturing of Pinda taila with different liquid media. Aim: To compare pharmaceutico-analytical parameters of Pinda taila prepared with three
different liquid media. Materials and Methods: Three batches of Pinda taila each of 250 ml were prepared by using Kanji, Godugdha and water as liquid media. Organoleptic and physicochemical parameters for the same were evaluated. Results: In organoleptic parameters, Pinda taila prepared from Godugdha is more thick in consistency when prepared in Godugdha. Physicochemical parameters like refractive index, acid value, specific gravity of prepared Pinda taila with different liquid media were within normal limit when compared with earlier published reports. Conclusion: Results of above study revealed that there is a definite role of media in the preparation of Ayurvedic formulations like Pinda taila. These results may be considered as standard for future studies.
