EVALUATION OF ASSOCIATION BETWEEN THYROID DYSFUNCTION AND METABOLIC SYNDROME

ABSTRACT
Aim and Objective: The principle aim of the study is to assess the relationship between thyroid dysfunction and metabolic syndrome in patients visited internal medicine department of a tertiary care hospital. Methods: A prospective study was conducted in 100 patients for a period of 6 months with an aim to evaluate the association between thyroid dysfunction and metabolic syndrome. Patients socio demographic and clinical data were recorded in a predesigned proforma and analyzed 100 patients data according to the objectives. Results: A number of 100 patients visited internal medicine department were analyzed and it was observed that thyroid dysfunction was more prevalent in males than females. It was observed that a
positive correlation between thyroid dysfunction and systolic blood pressure. There is a negative correlation between thyroid dysfunction and total cholesterol. LDL and triglycerides also possess a significant negative correlation with thyroid dysfunction. A positive correlation is observed between thyroid dysfunction and HDL. Conclusion: In conclusion, it has been found that the relationship of thyroid dysfunction is in congruity with the metabolic syndrome.
