IKSHUVAKU AS VAMAKA YOGA IN MANAGEMENT OF SUB CLINICAL HYPOTHYROIDISM- A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT
Among the Panchakarma vamana is aadhya karma indicated for Kapha pradhana, Kapha sthanaja, Pittasamsrusta Kaphaja vyadhis. Madanaphala is the most commonly drug used. There are other vamaka drugs which are equally effective as madanaphala. These drugs are indicated for particular conditions, as they are having action on specific Srotas. One such drug is Ikshuvak. It is one among the Teekshna vamaka yoga mainly indicated in Bahu kapha, Galaganda, Medo gata vikaras, Granthi, Swarabeda, other kaphaja vyadhi, where in prakupita kapha nirharana is necessary, which can be attained through vamana karma. Hypothyroidism is an endocrinological disease with signs & symptoms of low metabolism which can be correlated
Rasapradoshaja vikara and kapha pradhanya dosha, where in Langhana in the form of Vamana will be main line of management. Considering tiktka rasa of Ikshuvaku, to enhance the palatability, Guda yoga was considered. In this study, for deepana- pachana chitrakadi vati was given till nirama lakshana, Snehapana with kalyanaka ghruta for 5 days, followed by Vamana karma with ikshuvaku guda yoga. After vamana karma there was changes in Thyroid profile which was maintained same for next 60 days without any oral medications along with there was complete reduction in complaints was noted. Hence Ikshuvaku as a vamaka yoga is beneficial in management of Subclinical Hypothyroidism.
