ROLE OF JALUKAAVCHARANA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF POST HERPETIC NEURALGIA – SINGLE CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT
Post herpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a chronic neuropathic pain in region of the herpes zoster (HZ) rash, persisting after the cutaneous lesion have healed. The condition of persistent burning pain in the body, where an out break of the varicella zoster virus has caused shingles, is termed as post -herpetic neuralgia. The cause of this condition is damage of the sensory nerves that can occur due to the movement of the reactivated herpes zoster virus from the nerve to the skin. It is commonly affected elderly patient on a unilateral site. It can also occur on face. Common symptoms including pain lasting 3 months or longer after healing of the shingles rash, numbness, burning pain, and itching over the affected area. This case deals with a case of post herpetic
neuralgia 67 years old male patient. Patient had been suffering from
pain with itching and burning sensation in the right eyebrow and upper back around right scapular region since 15days. He has history of herpes zoster for this he taken allopathic treatment. He got significant relief in her complaint but after 1 weeks he stared itching and burning pain in healed blisters. So for farther management, patient came to department of panchkarma rishikul campus Haridwar where four sittings of local application of Jaluka over the affected area. After four sittings, he got significant relief in burning pain and itching. This assessment was done on the based on subjective parameters after each sitting. This study reveals that panchkarma procedure like Jalukaavcharana (Raktamokshana) provided a significant relief in this case.
