BRAIN TARGETED DRUG DELIVERY: A NOVEL APPROACH FOR BRAIN TREATMENT

ABSTRACT
A targeted drug delivery system is the most widely used novel drug delivery system, where the drugs are delivered to specific target organs of the body. The brain-targeted drug delivery system is a targeted drug delivery system where the drug is explicitly given to the brain to treat CNS disorders and brain tumors. The brain is a highly complex structure consisting of billions of neurons. A barrier in the brain protects the brain from foreign agents. Among these Blood-brain barriers, which act as a significant barrier in the brain, it is a highly complex and specific type of barrier. Most drugs cannot penetrate this barrier, making it difficult to treat many CNS disorders and brain tumors. The conventional dosage form cannot be used to treat CNS disorders; therefore, we have discussed some of the recent technologies used in the brain-targeted drug delivery system and their
practical application for the effective treatment of brain-related disorders. We also have concerned about the barriers and their mechanism. We mainly focused on non-invasive techniques like microneedles, ultrasound, laser, etc. We also discussed gene therapy and its different strategies for treating CNS disorders and brain tumors.
