ABSTRACT
Fast dissolving tablets are a rapidly growing area in the pharmaceutical industry and demand increased during the last decade for the treatment or management of diseases. The design of FDTs is convenient for administration and improves patient compliance by considering swallowing difficulty and poor patient compliance with a conventional dosage form. Several FDTs technologies were developed and advancements resulted in increased popularity, usefulness, and economy. Fast dissolving tablets will disintegrate or dissolve in the mouth within 60 secs, by the use of super disintegrants in the formulations, absorption will be faster, so enhanced bioavailability will
be seen. In this review article, we briefly discussed the need for the development, ideal properties, drug candidates suitable for FDTs, advantages, disadvantages, challenges, patented technologies, mechanism of super disintegrants, formulation aspects, evaluation tests, industrial applications, and future aspects.
