CULTIVATION AND USES OF GOLDEN SWEET POTATO (IPOMOEA BATATAS): A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas) originated in Latin America now cultivated in most tropical and sub-tropical countries of the world. Easy to cultivate this root tuber crop with white flesh, requires minimum fertilizers and water and produces maximum food per unit area and time. Its golden-yellow fleshed variant called Golden Sweet Potato or Orange-fleshed Sweet Potato, is rich in minerals, nutritional properties and Beta Carotene. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, immunity boosting and Vitamin A Deficiency remedying properties. Due to these reasons, attention of the people is drawn towards it. The overall goal of this review is to provide a brief
overview of the cultivation, phytochemicals content and application of this plant.
