It is one of the common reasons; parents seek medical advice during their child‟s first 3 months of life. Nothing seems to provide relief to the baby who cries with full vigour and the whole family is extremely upset and demoralised by these unexplained shrieking episodes. In Ayurveda, Kashyapa Samhita has explained colic as when the child rejects the mother‟s feed, cries, sleeps in supine position, has distension in abdomen, feeling of cold and perspiration of face. Various drugs which are having Deepana, Pachana and Anulomaka properties are advised in colic, so the Sara Sangraha and Rasatantra Sara Evam Sidha Yoga Sangraha has mentioned Janama Ghutti for the various ailments in neonates and colic is among the indications.
