Abstract

USE OF SMARTPHONES CAUSES PERMANENT HEALTH ISSUES

Shivshankar Prasad Pandey*

ABSTRACT

When we start and end our day with mobile, everyone looks at their smartphone an average of 150 or more times every day. The purpose of this study is to know about the physical side effects of using smartphones during the Covid lockdown based on the responses of the students through online surveys. Eye health problems due to prolonged use of mobile devices, tablets, computers, and TVs. Our eyes, brain, and musculoskeletal system are major areas affected by digital eye strain, and our sleep-wake cycles (circadian rhythms) also change. The main reason for these problems is due to the high concentration in these screens, blinking 6 to 8 times per minute, and decreased production of melatonin hormone secreted by our body. It is clear that there are some eyes, brain, and muscular-skeletal system related problems due to the continuous use of the smartphone, but the chances of those problems having any serious consequences are very less.

Keywords: Electromagnetic Spectrum, computer vision syndrome or digital eye strain. Digital eye strain, Circadian Rhythm.
