It is situated in the uppermost part of the abdominal cavity on the right side beneath the diaphragm. Liver is mainly divided into two lobes, right and left lobes. The upper surface is convex and lies beneath the diaphragm and occupies most of the right
hypochondriac and part of epigastric region of the abdomino-pelvic cavity and the under surface is irregular. Liver plays vital role for metabolism of absorbed nutrient materials, secretion of bile and bile pigments, synthesis of plasma proteins, storage of vitamin-A. 'Yakrit Roga' is caused by vitiation of Rasa and Rakta Dusthi. Mandagni and Vishamagni causes the formation of 'Ama'. 'Ama' further leads to Srotorodha in Yakrit and leads to Doshadushya Sammurchana. These all lead to Yakrit Vikar. The global crude annual incidence rate for liver disease is 14 per 100000 populations, while standardized annual incidence rate is 8.1 per 100000 and recent reports have shown that 10% of world population is affected with liver diseases.
