ABSTRACT
Clerodendrum genus belongs to the family of Lamiaceae (Verbenaceae) which exhibits abundant pharmaceutical prominence. Clerodendrum genus is extensively disseminated in subtropical region as well as in tropical areas of the biosphere. This genus comprises of small herbs, shrubs and trees. Numerous species of Clerodendrum genus exhibited its medicinal significance that had been described in several native schemes of drugs as well as in several traditional medications. In present study, concentrated on the preliminary screening the qualitative separation of secondary metabolites from four
Clerodendrum species. The secondary metabolites phytochemicals have essential roles to protect the human health. The constituents of phytochemical are alkaloids, terpenoids, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins etc. The medicinal values of the bioactive phytochemical cause definite physiological action on the human body. The phytochemicals have the biological properties such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, modulation of hormone metabolism, modulation of detoxification enzymes, stimulation of the immune system decrease of platelet aggregation and anticancer.
Keywords: Phytochemical, Secondary metabolite, antioxidant, immune system.
