Abstract

A CLINICAL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF GANDHAKADI TAILA AND RASNADI GUGGULU IN THE MANAGEMENT OF POOTIKARANA W.S.R. TO CSOM

ABSTRACT

Chronic Suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is the result of an initial episode of acute otitis media and is characterised by recurrent discharge from the middle ear through a tympanic perforation[1] It is an important cause of hearing loss, particularly in the developing world. It is a very serious ear disease which require immediate treatment without negligence. Otherwise it may turn out to many intracranial complications like Extradural abscess, Subdural abscess, Brain abscess, Meningitis, Otitic hydrocephalus etc.[2] The present study was done on 30 patients of Pootikarana, who were grouped into three groups with 10 patients in each group. Group A was treated with Gandhakadi Taila Karnapoorana, Group B with Rasnadi Guggulu as oral drug and Group C with both Gandhakadi Taila & Rasnadi Guggulu. The signs and symptoms were studied before and after treatment, study showed mild improvement in 11 (42.3%) patients, moderate improvement in 7 (26.9%) patients, marked improvement and no improvement in 4 (15.4%) patients each.
