ABSTRACT
Nowadays peptic ulcer has become on the commonest disease induced by H. pylori and Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). Psidium guajava is a significant food crop and medicinal plant in tropical and subtropical nations is generally utilized like food and in people medicine worldwide. On the basis of previous research, this research was based on pharmacological screening of anti-ulcer potential of hydroalcoholic leaves extract (HLE) of P. guajava in Wistar albino rats. The leaves of Psidium guajava were obtained from the Unnao reason. It was identified and authenticated by a botanist and extraction process was done using hydroalcoholic solution (1:1 ratio).
Albino rats of either sex weighing 150–200 g will be obtained from the Animal House, Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research (IPSR), Unnao. The animals are maintained in proper conditions, at room temperatures of 25 ± 1°C with 12-hour light/dark cycle. Rats were grouped into 4 ones i.e., group 1 (distilled water), group 2 (Ranitidine 20mg/kg), group 3 (HLE of Psidium guajava (200mg/kg) and group 4 (HLE of Psidium guajava (400mg/kg) and treated for 15 days. For anti-ulcer screening, forced swimming- induced ulcer model was used. Evaluation parameters included microscopical examination, determination of pH, free & total acidity and volume of gastric juice. It resulted that P. guajava significantly exhibited anti-ulcer potential when compared with control group. In conclusion, it confirms that P. guajava has significant anti-ulcer potential in lower and higher doses. It could be used in human beings after successful clinical trials.
