PHARMACEUTICAL AND PHARMACOGNOSY ANALYSIS OF BALACHATURABHADRACHURNA AN EFFECTIVE HERBAL COMPOUD FOR PRATISHYAYA IN CHILDREN

ABSTRACT
Respiratory infections are major causes of morbidity in children and particular in developing countries like India. URTI can be correlate with Pratishyaya which manifest due to the migration of the Kapha, Rakta & Pitta from the root of the Nasa pradesha. Since Long time Balachaturbhadradchurna has been used as Anubhuta Yoga in OPD Kaumarbhritya dept. I.T.R.A., Jamnagar & it has shown excellent result in Pratishyaya and other respiratory diseases also. Ingredients of Balachaturbhadradchurna are Musta (Cyperus rotandus), Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum), Pippali (Piper longum) and Karkatsrungi (Pistacia integerrima). The present study was carried out to standardize the finished product to establish its identity and quality. Present drug was prepared in the Pharmacy, Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar, by following Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P.) of preparation of Churna. The presence of Fibres of Musta, Pitted vessels of Ativisha, Stone cell of Pippali, Black matter of Karkatshringi, Prismatic crystal of Ativisha, Stone cells of Karkatshrungi were the characteristic features observed in powdered microscopy of drug. Physicochemical analysis shows 12.28% w/w loss on drying, 22.64% w/w water soluble extract and 06 pH. High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) showed 03 & 05 spots at 254 & 366 nm.
