ABSTRACT
Since the Indian population is particularly prone to diabetes, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has gone beyond the prescribed value in India. The study's major goal is to assess the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus in study participants, provide counselling to those who are at high risk, and evaluate the impact of that counselling. Our study involved 329 people over the age of 18 and was conducted in Eraviperoor Gramapanchayath and Thiruvalla Municipality from Pathanamthitta district. Risk was classified as high (≥60), medium (30-50), and low (< 30) based on the Indian Diabetes Risk Score (IDRS). Of the 329 participants, 155 had a high chance of acquiring Type 2
Diabetes Mellitus, which is a hazardous sign for the population. Counselling was given to the high risk subjects. Counselling provided to the individuals resulted in a greater understanding of type 2 diabetes mellitus and the necessity of lowering diabetes risk, as well as a reduction in the risk of getting type 2 diabetes.
Keywords: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Indian Diabetes Risk Score (IDRS), Prevalence.
