ABSTRACT
Coronavirus disease 2019 is an emerging disease with a rapid increase in cases and deaths since its first identification in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.Limited data are available about coronavirus disease 2019 during pregnancy; however, information on illnesses associated with other highly pathogenic coronaviruses (ie, severe acute respiratory syndrome and the Middle East respiratory syndrome) might provide insights into coronavirus disease 2019’s effects during pregnancy. The SARS-CoV-2 causes a clinical syndrome designated coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19) with a spectrum of manifestations ranging from mild upper respiratory tract infection to severe pneumonitis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and death. Pregnancy is a state of partial immune suppression which makes pregnant women more
vulnerable to viral infections, and the morbidity is higher even with seasonal influenza. Therefore, the COVID- 19 epidemic may have serious consequences for pregnant women. This review summarizes the current existing literature on COVID-19 infection during pregnancy and childbirth, particularly concerning clinical presentation and outcomes. The virus is mainly transmitted to the neonates through vertical transmission and responsible for severe pneumonia and respiratory disorder but percentage of recovery is quite good . A focus on comparison of the different characteristics of MERS ,SARS & COVID -19 is given . The detailed study of adequate knowledge about the effect of COVID -19 on Neo-natal and the preventive measures that can be taken to prevent the vertical transmission.
Keywords: COVID-19; pregnancy; infectious disease transmission, vertical; coronavirus; severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus, Neo natal.
