ABSTRACT
Topical drug delivery system contains dosage forms which are applied directly to the skin to treat various diseases associated with skin. Emulgel systems are in attention to the pharmaceutical industry because of their potential to act as drug delivery vehicle by incorporating a broad range of drug molecules. When a gel and emulsion are in combined form the dosage form are called as emulgel. It is appeared as one of the most advanced topical delivery system as it has binary release control system that is emulsion and gel. Despite of many advantages of gels, a major limitation is the difficulty in delivery of hydrophobic medications. To overcome this limitation an emulsion based approach is being used, so that even a hydrophobic moiety can be effectively incorporated. Studies on emulgel gives a better future in
delivering further numbers of topical drugs as emulgel by their
advantages over other drug delivery systems.
