Deepa Karikatti*, Rajendra H. M. and Swathi M.
ABSTRACT
Scorpion stings are an intimidating problem in India. Sparse data are available regarding clinical presentation and complications in adult patients with scorpion sting from rural South India. The incidence of scorpion sting envenomation yearly is about 12 lakh people per year and is responsible for about 3250 deaths. Vrischika visha is categorised under keeta visha in Ayurveda. Its warning signs are urdwa gati of daha, toda, sputana, shyavata, shotha etc. Several treatment approaches are explained in classics, lepa is one among the external application. Karpasapatra lepa consisting of karpasa patra and ghrita is applied over the damsha Pradesh (sting), one third angula thickness. Karpasa patra along with ghritha counteracts vrischika visha as the
guna karma of lepa and visha lakshanas are opposite in nature. This lepa is not being used in clinical practice in spite of knowing the action of karpasa patra lepa on vrischika visha. Based on this review, it can be concluded that Karpasapatra lepa referring from “Yogaratnakara'' can also be used in vrischika visha as this yoga is easily available.
