Abstract
FISH OIL- SIDE-EFFECTS AND PRECAUTIONS
I. R. Ustad*
ABSTRACT
Fish oil is nearly safe for most people when consumed orally in low doses. Fish oil is safe if it is taken equal to or below 3 gm per day. There are some safety concerns when fish oil is taken in high doses. When it is taken higher than 3 gm per day, it increases chances of bleeding as it prevents blood clotting. High doses of fish oil can also reduce the immune system's activity, which ends reducing the body's ability to fight against infection. Special care should be taken for the people who are consuming medications to reduce their immune system's activity (For example, Organ transplant patients) and the
elderly. Present paper deals with the side-effects and precautions to be taken while consuming fish oil.
