EFFECTS OF CAWTHORNE AND COOKSEY EXERCISE IN IMPROVING BALANCE AND FALL PREVENTION IN ELDERLY POPULATION

ABSTRACT
Background: Elderly people are more vulnerable to have difficulty in balance. Balance and fall prevention is one of the major problems among this group, accompanied with decrease of daily living activity. Aim and Objective: To compare the effectiveness of cawthrone Cooksey and frenkel in improving balance and fall prevention in elderly population. Procedure: An experimental study was conducted on elderly population, belonging to the age group of 75 to 85 years and they were randomly divided into two groups group A consisting of 10 subjects and group B consisting of 10 subjects. Group A was given Cawthorne and Cooksey exercises and group B was given frenkel
exercise for a duration of 8 weeks. Tug test, sharpened romberg test and fall efficacy scale was taken as an outcome measure. Result: Statistical analysis showed that there was significant improvement in balance and fall prevention in Group A, who was treated with Cawthorne and Cooksey exercise. Conclusion: The study concluded that Cawthorne and Cooksey exercise was effective in improving balance and fall prevention in elderly population.
