PHARMACOGNOSTIC, PHYTOCHEMICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL STUDIES OF ANDROGRAPHIS PANICULATA NEES

ABSTRACT
Since the dawn of civilization, medicinal plants have been an integral part of human life to mitigate illness. Andrographis paniculata Nees. is among the most popular herbal plants in the world. Traditionally there are known to cure jaundice, act as an antipyretic, anthelmintic, stomachic and antidyspic, etc. In the present study a detailed evaluation of various pharmacognostic parameters including organoleptic, physcio-chemical, fluorescent studies, TLC profile and anatomical studies; preliminary phytochemical: revealing the presence of various secondary metabolites and pharmacological activity such as,
analgesic activity, anti-inflammatory activity, hypoglycemic activity, cardio-tonic, antimicrobial activity were studied. The findings corroborated the plant's conventional and folk arguments, indicating that it may be used as a prevention strategy for a variety of diseases.
