ABSTRACT

In present study, sustained release tablet of model drug, Aceclofenac has been prepared by direct compression method using Carbopol 971P, Methocel E4M, Ethocel N-50 as a polymer in various ratios. Pre-compression parameters of powdered blend as well as prepared batches were studied and found within the range. FTIR of physical mixture (Aceclofenac, Carbopol 971P, Methocel E4M and Ethocel N-50) suggesting no incompatibility. Out of batches F1-F9, Among all the formulations formulations (F1-F3) prepared with Carbopol 971P alone releases Aceclofenac about 18 Hrs than F4-F9 but formulation F2 was optimized as it has shown a maximum and sustain drug release of 99.05±0.14 % at the end of 18th hours; showed higher correlation coefficient (r-value) followed Zero order release kinetics. Optimized F2 batch when subjected to stability at 40 20 C temperatures with relative humidity 755% for three months showed no significant changes in physiochemical properties, drug release profile as well as drug content of indicating there was no degradation and change in the matrix system.

Keywords: Sustained Release Tablet, Model Drug, Aceclofenac, FTIR.
