ANTIOXIDANT AND ANTI-ARTHRITIC ACTIVITY OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT OF DELONIX REGIA SEEDS

ABSTRACT

Despite the number of traditional uses of Delonix regia and the wide use of various parts of the same, the present work was to evaluate the Antioxidant and Anti-arthritic activity from methanolic extract of the seeds. The seeds were collected, processed and prepared methanolic extracts. The methanolic extract after preliminary phytochemical screening showed the presence of saponins, carbohydrates and flavonoids. The extract was tested for antioxidant activity by in vitro methods (DPPH free radical scavenging assay and Hydrogen peroxide scavenging assay). The anti-arthritic activity by in-vitro method was tested using inhibition of protein and albumin denaturation method. The methanolic extract of the seeds of Delonix regia showed posivite for both antioxidant and anti-arthritic activities. Hence Delonix regia can be a better choice for natural antioxidant as well as anti-arthritics. Further in vivo studies can be done using isolated components to confirm the efficacy and mechanism of action.
