ABSTRACT
Anjana is a medicinal preparation which is applied on the lower palpebral conjunctiva. Its active principles may be transferred to the interior of the eye according to their hydrophilic and lipophilic qualities mainly through the conjunctiva and cornea by paracellular and transcellular pathways. Saindhavadi Anjana is an Ayurvedic topical formulation mentioned in Chakradutta Samhita. The formulation is believed to cure ocular diseases like Shushkakshipaka. Keeping all these points this study has been undertaken with the aim to modify Saindhavadi Anjana into ointment form and to develop the physicochemical profile of the final product. This Anjana was prepared through Ghana Satva Kalpana.
