PREVALENCE AND DETERMINANTS OF POLYPHARMACY IN CARDIOVASCULAR PATIENTS ADMITTED IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT
Aim and Objectives: The study aims to evaluate the prevalence and determinants of polypharmacy in cardiovascular patients admitted in a tertiary care hospital. This research was performed to find out the prevalence of polypharmacy and cardiovascular polypharmacy, polypharmacy associated factors, sociodemographic details and clinical characteristics of subjects. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study done for a period of 6 months involving 110 patients. The prevalence of polypharmacy and cardiovascular polypharmacy was determined. The statistical association between the variables and polypharmacy was analyzed using SPSS version 26. Logistic regressions were used to identify the
determinants of polypharmacy in cardiovascular patients. Result and Discussion: The mean age of the patients was 63.145 ± 14.218. The mean number of medications prescribed per patient was 12.245 ± 6.546. The prevalence of polypharmacy was 80% in the patients while cardiovascular polypharmacy was 39.09%.
