ABSTRACT
In today’s era traumatic incident such as sports injuries, vehicle accidents and falls may lead to an injury to the Musculo-skeletal system can result in damage to bones, joints, muscles and tendons. However, the incidence of the long bones being fractured is higher and thus, demands special attention. As per prevalence rate distal radius and ulna fractures were the most common upper extremities fractures (16.2 fractures per 10,000), followed by hand fractures (phalangeal and metacarpal fractures; 12.5 and 8.4 per 10,000, respectively) proximal humerus fractures (6.0 per 10,000), and clavicle fractures (5.8 per 10,000). According to Ayurveda, fracture is corelated with Bhagna
vyadhi, and there is very specific description of the Bhagna and their treatment mentioned by Sushruta, while describing the management of Bhagna Sushruta explained the basic principles involved in handling these cases with the most methodological approach like Anchana (Traction), Peedana (Counter traction), Sankshepana (Correction of deformity) and Bandhana (Immobilization). Sushruta also mention Parishek and Pradeha (lepa) chikitsa in the management of bhagna. Here an attempt has been made to critically analyze the role of Manjishthamulethi Lepa in management of Kanda Bhagna.
