ABSTRACT
Neurodegenerative disease is caused by the progressive loss of structure or function of neuron, in the process known as neurodegeneration. Such neuronal damage may ultimately involve apoptosis. These neurodegenerative disorders include Alzheimer's Parkinson’s and dementias. And usually seen in older people from age 65 and beyond. Over the years, several studies have been carried out to discover the potential use of plant drugs for treatment and cure of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson's. It's being discovered that certain phytoconstituent have Neuroprotective activity, and show their action
by exerting antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, mono amino oxygenase and anticholinesterase inhibition activity. Plant secondary metabolites include an array of bioactive constituents from both medicinal and food plants able to improve human health. The exposure to these phytochemicals, including phenylpropanoids, isoprenoids, alkaloids, and flavonoids through correct dietary habits, may promote health benefits, protecting against the chronic degenerative disorders mainly seen in Western developed countries, such as cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. In this review, we briefly deal with neurodegenerative disorders, and certain traditional plants and their phytoconstituents which have been found useful over the years and may have promising use in the future.
