Abstract

LIQUISOLID TABLET: AN APPROACH FOR ENHANCEMENT OF SOLUBILITY

Anusha*, Viresh K. Chandur and A. R. Shabaraya

ABSTRACT

Liquisolid technique is novel and promising method that can change the dissolution rate of water insoluble drugs. This technique is suitable for immediate or sustained release formulations and which depends upon the solubility of the drug in the non-volatile solvent. By means of non-volatile solvent can get improved wettability and ensure molecular dispersion of drug in the formulations and leads to enhance solubility. Based upon a new mathematical model expression, improved flow characteristics and hardness of the formulations has been achieved by changing the proportion of Avicel ® PH 200 and Aerosil ® PH 200 from 50:1 ratio to 5:1 and in which the drug is dispersed in molecular state. By using hydrophobic carriers one can change the release of drugs by this technique. Liquisolid system is mainly composed of drug, non-volatile solvent, carrier and coating material and disintegrates. In liquisolid technique carrier and coating material should be in the range of 20:1 is mixed into the non-volatile solvent and followed by disintegrant is added and final material is compressed into tablets. For that reason, the liquisolid technology allows the conversion of liquid systems into solid drug delivery systems. The intension of this article is to express about the liquisolid technique like basics, classification, preformulation studies, characterization, precompression studies, formulation of tablet, post compression studies.

Keywords: Dissolution rate enhancement, Non-volatile solvents, poorly soluble drugs.
