A REVIEW ARTICLE – DYSMENORRHEA ACCORDING TO AYURVEDIC ASPECTS

ABSTRACT
In today’s lifestyle woman’s status is expected to reach new horizons both socially and physically but some of the physiological things trouble the lady to make her slow down the race. Kashtartava’ (Dysmenorrhea) i.e., painful menstruation is a broad term which covers all the problems and ailments that a woman may suffer from during or around menstruation. Normal menstruation, which is the function of Apana vayu is disturbed due to stressful life resulting in Mithya Ahar, vihar, over exertion & malnutrition. In Ayurvedic texts, Kashtartava is not mentioned specifically. It is a symptom of various Yonivyapadas specially Udavarta, Vatala, Sannipatika etc. Normal rajpravrutti is mainly done by vata osha Ayurveda recommends rutucharya and dinacharya in rajaswala paricharya on regular basis so as to alleviate dysmenorrhea effectively.
