STUDY ON GEOGRAPHICAL AND MEDICINAL WEALTH OF KONKAN REGION

ABSTRACT
The present project deals with the study of traditional (Medicinal plants) grown in different parts of palghar district konkan region of Maharashtra. Altogether 25 plant species were recorded in targetted area. The main indication for medicinal plant use were against fever, skin diseases, ulcer, common cold, asthma, wound healing, diarrhoea, worm problems. Some parts of plants are observed to be used, only for external application, without any Processing to cure diseases and infections. Plants were identified and arranged as botanical name, family name, local name, useful part, and formulation use to cure
various ailments. Documentation of ethno-medicinal knowledge from aborigine or tribal people may help for the formulation of new drugs to cure different ailments. Leaves of individual plants were studied and their traditional claims and medicinal use were known. we selected the below discussed plants becos they were available nearby to our residence as well as most of them we took are not so common so we thought of exploring and getting to know such unique plants useful as herbal medicine, also another reason for selecting them is that their biological activites such as antibacterial, antioxidant etc are useful in our day to day life, and all the plants selected are having leaves that are useful medicinally not specifically their fruits or flowers are required for treatment.
