ABSTRACT

Recent advances in nanotechnology paved path for design of nanogels with many potential applications in the field of nanomedicine. Nanogels being dispersions of hydrogel nanoparticles or nanosponges offer high drug loading compared to other nanocarriers and are thus suitable for solving issues related to stability, solubility and delayed release of actives and to formulate drug delivery systems for various administration routes besides the oral one. Controlled release of the loaded actives and solubility enhancement of poorly water-soluble drugs are major advantages of nanosponge drug delivery systems. Development of nanosponges as topical drug delivery systems is presented in this study. Where we formulated Oxiconazole Nitrate nanosponge based topical gel using ethylcellulose as polymer and polyvinyl alcohol as surfactant with different concentration. Which were evaluated for percentage yield, drug entrapment efficiency, surface morphology and in-vitro drug release among all 3 different formulations F3 batch considered as the best with 82% of drug entrapment efficiency and with greater percentage drug release of 83.50% at the end of 8hrs. From the SEM analysis its concluded that nanosponges are spherical, disceret with smooth surface. The nanosponges loaded into the carbopol 394P gel which were evaluated for viscosisty, spreadability, pH, extrudability. Finally we concluded that prepared dapsone nanosponge topical gel shows promised drug release and good stability.

Keywords: Oxiconazole nitrate nanosponge, Topical gel, Ethyl cellulose.
