TOWARDS LOWER CRITICISM OF MADHAVANIDANA - VYAKHYA BALABODHINI A COMMENTARY ON MADHAVANIDANA

ABSTRACT
Manuscript in general and in particular the medical manuscripts are the intellectual wealth of India. They provide valuable information on the culture, practices and ethical development. It is the work of Ayurvedic researchers to identify the unpublished manuscripts and publish them by adhering to the fundamental principles of critical edition. Emphasizing importance on lower criticism critical edition of Ayurvedic manuscripts, Balabodhini teeka on Madhavanidana is carried out. There are three Sanskrit commentaries on Madhavanidana. Among them Madhukoshateeka by Vijayarakshitha and Shrikantadatta and Atanka Darpana by Vachaspathivaidya are the two main commentaries. Many of the commentaries are not being critically edited one among them is Madhavanidana vyakhya - Balabodhini. The commentary is available from 27th (Udavarta-nidana) chapter to 58th
(nasaroga-nidana) chapter of Madhavanidana. Madhavanidana vyakhya – Balabodhini is a commentary on Madhavanidana is being critically edited and compared with available commentaries to know its contribution to the field of Ayurveda as well as in better understanding the original text of Madhavanidana. The only way to preserve the Ayurveda knowledge is by editing and publishing the matters present in manuscripts and there by enriching the source of knowledge and converting it to an implicable form as per present social life.
