ABSTRACT
Corona virus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by novel corona virus belonging to family coronaviridae. These corona virus shows various mutations, variants and strains by changing their genetic sequencing. Variants are classified into four classes; variant of concern, variant of interest, variant of high consequences, variant being monitored. This infection can be controlled by using various vaccines such as whole virus vaccine, RNA vaccine, protein vaccine, viral vector vaccine. These various vaccines shows different efficacy according to their potency. Almost all vaccines shows more than 75 %
efficacy against COVID-19. Emerging variants not only result in increased transmissibility, morbidity and mortality, but also have the ability to evade detection by existing or currently available diagnostic tests, which can potentially delay the diagnosis and treatment, exhibit decreased susceptibility to treatment including antivirals, monoclonal antibodies and convalescent plasma, possess the ability to cause reinfection in previously infected and recovered individuals, and vaccine breakthrough cases in fully vaccinated individuals. This article gives bird’s eye view about this new virus and how effective various vaccines against various variants of COVID 19.
