ABSTRACT
Coumarins like warfarin are effective for treatment and prevention of venous and arterial thrombosis. Warfarin’s can cause major or fatal bleeding. Performing regular monitoring of international normalized ratio (INR) on all treated patients is necessary. We describe a case on 72 year old female with known case of CVA who presented with complaints of tiredness and melena since 2 days. She was on treatment with warfarin for past 2 months. Her lab investigations showed an elevation in PT and INR ratio. Based on the subjective and objective evidence the patient was diagnosed as warfarin induced coagulopathy. This evidence recommends close monitoring of PT and INR ratio in
patients taking coumarins also providing counselling regarding medications as well as lifestyle modifications is important for this condition. Occurrence of coagulopathy is a known complication associated with warfarin. hence monitoring of INR is necessary.
