Abstract

REVIEW ON VARIOUS TREATMENT OPTIONS USED IN GALL-STONE

ABSTRACT

The gall stone formation (Cholelithiasis) is well known global health problem since very early times. Gallstones are stone-like objects that develop in the gallbladder or bile ducts, mainly divided into two types cholesterol stone (80%) and pigment stone (20%). There are various factors which effects on gall stone formation such as; geography, age, sex, genetics, obesity etc. A lack of melatonin could significantly contribute to gallbladder stones, as melatonin inhibits cholesterol secretion from the gallbladder to enhances the conversion of cholesterol to bile and is an antioxidant, capable of reducing oxidative stress to the gallbladder. Common symptoms of gallbladder stone include; nausea, vomiting, pain at upper right abdomen, pain below right shoulder, pain between shoulder blades, etc. The disease can be diagnosed by using laboratory tests, radiological studies, ultrasonography, CT scan, MRI, Cholescintigraphy, etc. Also there are various treatment options are available for gallbladder stones, allopathic drugs such as Cholesterol Medications, Cefazolin, Pitofenone, etc. In ayurveda; black paper, turmeric, Punarnavadi, Curcumin, Peppermint, ginger, spinach play important role to treat gallbladder stone. Some herbal medications such as; Liver Detox, Arogyavardhini Vati, Punarnava capsule are also beneficial. This article outlines all the information of gall bladder, gall bladder stones, and various treatment options used to treat gallbladder stone.
