YAVA (HORDEUM VULGARE) – A DIETARY SOLUTION IN PRAMEHA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO DIABETES MELLITUS

ABSTRACT
Balance is the rule of nature. So far as it is applied truly to each and every life in nature also to human beings. To recognize, understand & finally respect the impact of nature on human life was an important task that was carried out thousands of years ago. This knowledge was compiled in a perfect logistic and scientific way through observations and repeated practices to establish the heading called Ayurveda which has its roots in our own Indian soil. Ayurveda has an ideal way to treat the diseases by taking at an advantage of nature‟s balancing rules. Ayurveda has got three fold management of all disease viz, Ahara (diet), Vihara (exercise) and Aushadha (drug). Acharya Charaka states that we all are outputs of Aharaso are the diseases. Disease specific dietary measures are the unique concept of Ayurveda. According to Acharya Charaka Yava is mentioned as a specific diet in Prameha. A properly selected diet plan (Pathya) plays a critical importance in disease management. Present paper aims at putting forward the importance of Yava in Prameha from Ayurvedic and Contemporary
perspective.
