ABSTRACT
Occurrences of pandemics were regular phenomenon in the history of civilizations. The early outbreak of notable pandemics such asplague of Justinian, Black Death plaque and Spanish flu during 541 AD, 1346 AD and 1918 AD caused huge losses to human beings. The prevailing measures adopted to contain the spread of infections among humans includedisolation and quarantine. The world is now facing the new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. These pandemics are reported to zoonotic in origin and transmitted between humans either directly or indirectly. The understanding of the mechanisms of transmission of pathogens to humans allowed the establishment of
methods to prevent and control infections. In the present article efforts are made to understand the occurrence of COVID-19 and pharmaceutical interventions employed for the management or treatment of pandemic.
