MUCORMYCOSIS: - ASSOCIATED WITH COVID-19

ABSTRACT
Corona virus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus (Novel corona virus).First time discovered in Wuhan, China. Fungal infections, including mucormycosis, aspergillosis and invasive candidiasis, have been reported in patients with severe COVID-19 or those recovering from the disease and have been associated with several illness and death. Mucormycosis (also called zygomycosis) is a serious fungal infection caused by a group of molds called mucormycetes is belongs to the phylum Glomeromycota. It is categorized into rhino-cerebral, cutaneous, gastrointestinal,
pulmonary, disseminated & isolated renal types. Mucormycosis is not a new disease. It has been there from time immemorial. It can result in an acute, rapidly advancing, and occasionally fatal disease. Mucormycosisis often referred to as the ‘Black fungus'. Mucor does not belong to the black fungus family but it is called as black fungus because it causes tissue necrosis. The main aim and purpose of this review related to overview of mucormycosis, it’s diagnosis, treatment, prevention and information on number of patients in some countries and some states of India.
